S10 ZR2

This is my 1998 Chevrolet S10 with ZR2 offroad package. I bought it new in December 1997. It has 4.3 liter Vortec V-6, automatic transmission, 3.73 axle ratio, and locking differential. I use it to drive to work and haul the quads around. It has 165000 miles on it. At 158000 miles I changed from Mobil 1 to Amsoil 5W-30. I really didn't notice a big difference in performance and fuel economy, because Mobil 1 is a decent oil although it isn't 100% synthetic. Since then I have put Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF in the transmission and transfer case. In the front and rear differential I changed to Amsoil Long Life Gear Lube. Since switching all of the fluids to Amsoil I can feel a increase in power and see a increase fuel economy. Before when it was windy the truck seemed to strain against the wind, now it doesn't. When I have to stop or slow down the truck seems to coast more. These S-10's normally get 17 to 18 mpg. After switching to synthetic lubricants I am getting over 19mpg city/highway, 90% highway driving. I am thinking about adding a cold air intake with a Amsoil filter and a body lift. If I get a new truck I will use this truck for some off road adventures. Click here to see more pictures.

Chevrolet 2500HD

This is my Dads 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. It has the Duramax Diesel and Allison transmission. He use it to pull his toy hauler. It has 85,000 miles on it. At first he got 18mpg empty. He switched to Amsoil Synthetic 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil, Amsoil EAO Oil Filter, and uses Amsoil Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate. Now he gets 20 mpg empty.

2001 Sterling Boom Truck

This is what I drive 5 days a week. It is a 2001 Sterling with a Terex 4792 Boom. The truck has a C-12 Cat rated at 410HP, with a 8 speed transmission, and 4.10 gears. The boom is 92 feet and has 23 1/2 Ton capacity. It currently has 106000 miles and 4800 hours on it. My brother drives one just like it. I use this truck to deliver steel beams to new house in the Kansas City metro area. We use the boom to set the beams in place and to set trusses on houses. I work for Royal Metals in Olathe, Ks. This is a very specialized truck, so if it breaks down I can't go to rental store and rent one. I just put Amsoil 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil in it with a Donaldson Endurance oil filter.  Before i put Amsoil in it I got 4.51mpg average over a six month period. I have only fueled up three times since i changed the oil, but am averaging 4.64 mpg. That doesn't seem like a big increase, but when you use a 100 gallons a weelk it makes a difference. One thing  I have noticed with the change is it runs cooler. Theses big Cats have a big fan that kicks on when the water temp gets over 220F. This fan blows on you when you are running the crane. When it is 100 degrees outside it gets hot when that fan blows on you. Since I have changed to Amsoil the fan doesn't seem to kick on as much. I have noticed that it doesn't pull down as much on the hills. The engine seems quiter since I started using Amsoil. Before we just changed oil as 10,000 miles. now we will do oil analysis since the Amsoil is so expensive, and hope to get alot more miles out of the oil. Here are some more pictures of our boom trucks trucks.

1991 Volvo

This is my Dads old truck. It is a 1991 Volvo WIA64TES it had over a million miles on it. It had a 12.7 Liter Detroit Diesel rated at 400 HP, with Eaton 9speed, and 3.78 gear ratio. He pulls intermodal containers for Fernelle's Express. He usually ran 1400 miles a week. He switched  to Amsoil 15W-40 Synthetic Blend for Diesels in the engine, Amsoil Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid SAE 50 in the transmission, and Amsoil Long Life Synthetic Gear Lube 75W-90 in the differentials. He also used Amsoil Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate year round. Before using Amsoil he got 5.91 MPG. After switching to Amsoil he got 6.81 MPG on his last IFTA report. This my Dads truck, it is a 2003 Kenworth T600. It came from Contract Freighters fleet and has 400,000 miles on it. It has a 450 horsepower Cummins, 13 speed transmission, and 3.55 gear ratio. He just traded his old Volvo in on it 07-20-06. We haven't put Amsoil in it yet. He pulls intermodal containers for Fernelle's Express located in Baldwin City, Ks. Click here to see more pictures
